On May 9th, 2006 The America Red Cross Bay Area Chapter will host its 7th annual International Humanitarian Law Seminar entitled, International Humanitarian Law: Children in War. Both the legal community and general public are invited to join our panel in a discussion on the impact of war on children. The exploitation of children in war is far reaching. From unwilling child soldier recruits to imprisonment and abuse, to starvation and abandonment, the numbers of innocent children in countries all over the world, who are being victimized for causes and reasons they may not even comprehend is staggering.
As part of its humanitarian mission, the American Red Cross is responsible for the dissemination of information on international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. The seminar on international humanitarian law as it relates to children in war provides an opportunity to fulfill this mission by informing both the legal community and the general public.
