Taste more than 30 artisanal cheeses and learn the ins and outs of cheese making from your expert guide. You’ll discover why this region is so famous for its award-winning cheeses. All tastings are included, as well as a picnic lunch among the picturesque rolling hills of West Marin.This small-group tour is limited to seven people, ensuring a more personalized experience.
Your morning starts at Tomales Bay Foods in Point Reyes Station in Marin, where you’ll meet your guide and enjoy some fresh cheese-filled pastries from the Bovine Bakery.
Your local foodie guide is a certified chef and will teach you the culinary history of Marin, plus all the ins and outs of cheese making in this Northern California region, which is famous for its award-winning artisanal cheeses.
Experience your first cheese tasting at the Cowgirl Creamery located within Tomales Bay Foods. Next, hop in the van and visit three other local cheese farms including Nicasio Valley Cheese Company, Marin French Cheese Company and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company (which is closed to the public). You'll meet the cheese makers, take behind-the-scenes tours of the facilities, and sample more than 30 artisanal cheeses, each with its own unique flavor and texture. You’ll indulge in these creamy treats on site, so you can see the cheesemaking process in action!
Each place you’ll visit offers something unique: Cowgirl Creamery’s Red Hawk cheese variety is crafted with a wild bacteria native to Point Reyes, so you can’t experience this cheese anywhere else. Nicasio Valley Cheese Company and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company – specializing in classic blue cheese -- use organic farmstead cow’s milk from cows raised on their own ranches. Marin French Cheese Company is the oldest cheese manufacturer in the US, producing since 1865, and specializes in handmade Brie and Camembert.
Be sure to save room for your picnic lunch (see Itinerary for a sample menu) at the lovely Marin French pond, surrounded by the picturesque rolling hills of West Marin. You’ll be amazed by the gorgeous scenery.
Take in one last view of spectacular Tomales Bay before heading back to Point Reyes Station to conclude your tour.
